Private Tours: One Guide, One Price, One Group – Why We Do Not Charge per Person

Anyone looking for a private city tour will quickly come across different price models. The problem is that there is no global market price for guided tours. There are major differences between countries, but also between cities within the same country. In recent years, some providers have also introduced the rather unusual method of charging for private tours per person. At Walking Warsaw – Warsaw City Guide – we have deliberately chosen the classic and common approach: our private city tours are charged at a fixed price per group. And only that way! Why? Because we are convinced that this model is fairer, more transparent and easier to understand.

A Private City Tour Is Not an Entrance Ticket

If you visit a museum, climb an observation tower or attend a concert, a price per person is perfectly normal. The same applies to public tours that anyone can join: each guest pays individually. Every additional visitor creates additional effort and costs. This already begins with issuing many invoices or receipts. At the meeting point, each guest also needs to be treated individually, which requires additional attention from the guide.

With a private city tour, however, the situation is different. Whether a guide accompanies two guests or six guests through the city makes only a small difference to the actual service. The preparation, travel time, tour itself and the guide’s expertise remain the same. You are not booking a place on a tour, but a professional city guide for your group.

Transparent Prices Instead of Complicated Calculations

Our prices are deliberately simple. For the 2026 season, we use the following structure:

• 1 hour: 110 €
• 2 hours: 130 €
• 3 hours: 150 €
• Each additional hour: 40 €

This means that our guests know exactly what costs to expect before booking.

A Look at the Numbers

Let us take our most popular “Must See” tour with a duration of three hours as an example.

The price is 150 € per group. This means:

• 2 people pay 75 € each
• 4 people pay 37.50 € each
• 6 people pay 25 € each
• 10 people pay 15 € each

The larger the group, the cheaper the tour becomes for each individual participant.

Now let us compare this with a hypothetical price of 25 € per person:

• 2 people: 50 €
• 4 people: 100 €
• 6 people: 150 €
• 10 people: 250 €

While a per-person model may initially seem cheaper for very small groups, it quickly becomes significantly more expensive for families, groups of friends or company outings. And in the tourism industry, these groups make up the majority of private city tours. This comparison has two consequences. On the one hand, our method benefits groups because, with just 6 people, they already pay a price per person that is manageable for each individual guest. On the other hand, a per-person pricing model may be attractive for very small groups, but it leaves the city guide with very little income. A guide may be able to accept this from time to time, but in the long run it becomes a serious financial burden. Larger groups, in turn, will often not book such a model, because from around 10 people upwards the total price already exceeds a reasonable level by far. Here we assume that a three-hour private tour should cost between 130 € and 170 €.

Fair for Guests and City Guides

We see a city tour as a professional service. That is why our pricing is based on what is actually provided: time, knowledge, preparation and personal attention.

For our guests, this means transparent prices without surprises. For our city guides, it means fair and understandable compensation for their work.

And this mutual fairness should be the guiding principle, above all when it comes to the relationship between price and quality, but also between the guide’s remuneration and the group’s reasonable financial effort.

Our Principle

At Walking Warsaw, when you book a private city tour, you are not booking a place on a tour. You are booking a city guide for your group, who is compensated fairly and respectfully. That is why we do not charge for our private city tours per person, but according to a fixed price per group and the duration of the tour.

Simple. Transparent. Fair. That is how it should be!
