Milk Bar Rusałka is one of the most authentic milk bars in Warsaw. It’s an independent place that has been around for decades, right in the heart of Praga District. Here you’ll find simple und honest Polish cooking!
Around lunchtime, milk bars are generally very crowded. We recommend going either around 11:30 a.m. or from 1 p.m. onwards.
Why do we recommend this restaurant?
The Milk Bar Rusałka is located in the Praga Północ (North) district, a historically developed part of the city on the “other side” of the Vistula that was not destroyed during World War II. You can safely say: an authentic milk bar in an authentic neighbourhood. Perhaps that’s why singer and artist Rosalía visited the place in October 2015 (she filmed parts of the music video for her new song “Berghain” in Warsaw).
As you can see in the photos, the interior has not been changed for at least 50 years. But when it comes to milk bars in general, “simplicity” is the usual motto. In that sense, Rusałka would be the mother of all milk bars in Warsaw. A visit here feels like stepping into a completely different era.
LANGUAGE TIP: Menus in milk bars are often only in Polish. Use Google Translate or remember a few key words such as zupa (soup), pierogi (dumplings) or zestaw dzienny (daily set).

You have to order everything separately, and there are plenty of meat-free dishes, such as Ruthenian pierogi (cheese-and-potato filling) or pierogi with sauerkraut and mushrooms. As a vegetarian, however, you shouldn’t expect anything particularly refined here.
