Fotoplastikon
EUR 2 per person
One of the last examples of the fotoplastikon popular in the early 20th century stands unscathed in the centre of Warsaw and continues to enjoy great popularity.
Short description
T he term Kaiserpanorama or Fotoplastikon refers to a mass medium popular at the turn of the 20th century that allowed up to 25 people at a time to view stereoscopic series of images through a peephole. The images shown were mainly of exotic destinations and landscapes that were unaffordable for ordinary people. One rotation of the image series, which were automatically transported in a circle behind a cylindrical wooden panelling, took half an hour.
Such a Fotoplastikon has stood in Warsaw’s city centre, in the immediate vicinity of the Palace of Culture, since 1905.
