What you can expect

W arsaw is a city shaped by war, and this walking tour explores a place defined by conflict, resilience and a lasting pursuit of freedom. Discover the resilient “Phoenix City” of Warsaw — a place that endured immense destruction during World War II, yet rose again from its ruins.

Warsaw: City of War and Resistance

Along the route, you will trace the city’s turbulent past, from World War I and the Polish–Soviet War to the devastation of World War II. The urban landscape and its inhabitants bore witness to relentless bombings and the daily fear of life under SS surveillance. At the same time, Warsaw became a symbol of courage, as its people rose up in two major acts of resistance: the 1943 Jewish Ghetto Uprising and the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.

The tour also explores the tragedy of the Holocaust and the strength of the underground resistance, before turning to the decades of communist rule that once again reshaped the city. Together, these layers of history offer a deeper understanding of how Warsaw became what it is today.
