Botanical Garden

Description

T he Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw was opened in 1818. Its first director and initiator was Michal Szubert. The original area of 22.5 hectares was reduced to 5.16 hectares after the suppression of the November Uprising of 1830-1831. The garden has retained this area to this day.
After many decades of decline, following World War I the Botanical Garden in Warsaw once again came under university administration, which resulted in extensive development. World War II interrupted this development. The buildings were blown up and the garden was devastated.
Today, the garden is experiencing a longer period of peace and is increasingly becoming an attraction for plant lovers from Warsaw and from outside the city.
Please note The Botanical Garden in Warsaw can be reached from Aleje Ujazdowskie (Royal Route). Less than 300 metres further on is the entrance to the Royal Lazienki Park, the most beautiful park in Warsaw and our number 5 among the top attractions in Warsaw.
